Alright folks you asked for it and now you have it. Yesterday Governor Abbott signed constitutional carry into law. I am still reviewing and learning everything that will be included in this new legislation, and you should be as well. With the ability to Carry a handgun being given back to the Legal, Law abiding citizen you now also have the responsibility to educate yourselves on the law.
When the Texas DPS sends out our renewal information as instructors, we will be fully updated on all changes to existing law. We should, at that point, be able to assist with questions regarding the Law aspects of constitutional carry. In the meantime, I would encourage all persons considering carrying a handgun under constitutional carry to attend a lesson or seek out some type of firearms training. It is your responsibility to be proficient and capable as a firearm carrier. Understand that you are 100% responsible for every round that leaves your firearm and where that round comes to rest. This can be the difference in going to jail for the rest of your life or never being charged because your actions were justified and reasonable. I would encourage all carriers of a firearm to seek out education on the laws of Texas, and training to be able to effectively and efficiently use your firearm.
So my plan of action is to cut my LTC Classes back to 2 weekends per month and begin offering a Constitutional Carry based class on the other 2 weekends. I have not set a price for this course yet and am only beginning to write a lesson plan for it. Be patient as I work through this and know that it will be a fantastic class that will help anyone that is not 100% on their shooting and knowledge of laws. Stay tuned because big things are coming.
The right to carry, in my opinion, is one of our fundamental rights bestowed upon us by GOD. We should all be able to defend ourselves from evil, and other threats. What other threats? Glad you asked....how about tyrannical government, invasion from another country, bad people doing bad things....rape, murder, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, arson etc. And the list goes on. My point here, is that yes we should be able to defend ourselves but we also have the responsibility to do it correctly. Let me help you with doing this correctly!!!!
